Change My Mind: Young Justice Should Have Already Been Renewed for a Fourth Season

It’s March, y’all. The Young Justice withdrawal is very much real, and I am not a happy camper. It’s hard to believe that we’ve survived a little over a month, and yet still have another three to go; then again, what’s four months compared to six years? I wish I could tell you that I am using this hiatus constructively to become a better person, but that would be a bold-faced lie. Instead I’ve been numbing the pain by writing fanfiction and refreshing Greg’s Twitter to find out if there are any new developments (21 episodes in the can, y’all!). Interestingly enough, one of the most-asked questions on Greg’s twitter is whether Young Justice has been renewed for another season; unfortunately, the answer remains a disappointing ‘no’.

Why is that? Young Justice has been breaking records and crashing modes since it premiered. The show is constantly trending on DC Universe and fans are eager to know if the story is planned to continue. Titans and Doom Patrol have already been renewed and they didn’t even have the massively loyal fanbase that Young Justice has. It’s a frustrating topic, and you better believe that I will go on and explain all the reasons why the show should have been renewed already:

  1. The season has been performing exceptionally well: After the first three episodes premiered, Young Justice: Outsiders scored 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s no secret that critics adore this new season, and the hype that surrounds it has been very much real. Before YJO even aired, the DC Universe released that the first two seasons have been among the highest-streamed content. While both Titans and Doom Patrol are great in their own right, it’s a little hard to swallow that they have been renewed for another season and Young Justice hasn’t.
  2. Fan engagement has never been higher: Do you guys remember when Young Justice: Invasion started trending on Twitter? Yeah, me neither. With more fans exposed to YJO than ever before, it’s no wonder that the show has been seen trending on Twitter and Tumblr. Fans are clamoring for a fourth season, urging others to #keepbingingYJ, and even going as far as playing the show in the background to keep it trending on DC Universe. Even fans outside the US are doing everything in their power to support the show in hopes that it won’t be cancelled a second time.
  3. Animation takes time: It took over two years for the third season to arrive at DC Universe, and the animation isn’t even finished yet! Animation is a long and expensive process, and unfortunately one that requires a lot of advanced notice. If YJ had been renewed for a fourth season in January, the creative team would be able to start work immediately, saving us from a longer wait time. Even if the show is renewed today, we would still have to wait another two years before we’d ever see it. That’s a lot of waiting for a growing fanbase to do.

I know these pieces are supposed to discuss a controversial piece that you should be able to change my mind on, but this is one in which I’m pretty firm: YJ should absolutely be renewed for a fourth season, and it’s frustrating that it hasn’t yet. I won’t claim that YJO is perfect and is free of faults, but overall, this season has been great and enjoyable to watch. I would do anything to support the show, and if you’re reading this, then I know you would too. So I implore you, keep binging Young Justice. Keep showing your support and doing your best to ensure that this show is renewed for another season.

Do you want another season? Let us know your thoughts, we’d love to hear from you! Feel free to post a comment below or in our forum.
